Diabetes Prevention Programme

Preventing and managing insulin resistance and prediabetes - 10-session online lifestyle change programme

Diabetes mellitus affects approximately 7%-10% of the population worldwide today. Statistics show that the number of patients is steadily increasing, with a 26% increase in the United States in six years. Diabetes increases the risk of certain diseases, such as cardiovascular disease (hypertension, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke), kidney disease, obesity and neuropathy.

Diabetes does not develop overnight. The conditions between healthy blood sugar levels and the onset of diabetes are called prediabetes and insulin resistance. However, these conditions are reversible. Metabolism can be restored and the person can avoid developing diabetes.

Studies show that the most effective way to reverse pre-diabetic conditions is through lifestyle changes. Moreover, studies show that lifestyle changes are significantly more effective than medication.

The Diabetes Prevention Programme builds on this. The programme takes participants through the steps of lifestyle change so that what was initially challenging becomes routine. My motto is to change only as much as is absolutely necessary and to make the lifestyle change as simple as possible. That way, success is more certain.

What is the programme?

  • The programme is a 10-session online lifestyle change programme, meeting for eight consecutive weeks in the first phase, and then two further sessions at 2-2 week intervals.

  • The programme is based on two pillars - nutrition and exercise. During the programme we will learn the theory and practice needed to stop and reverse insulin resistance and prediabetes.

  • The programme includes reading material and the sessions are partly based on this.

  • During the online meetings, you can ask questions and we'll discuss what you need to know.

  • During the practical part we will go through the basics of food preparation.

  • During the programme, you will have the opportunity to have a personal 20-minute consultation in case you are looking for an answer to something you don't want to share with others.

If you have health problems other than diabetes that you would like to address, a full, longer consultation is the right format to discuss them.

You can register for both face-to-face consultations via the website.

First session: Monday 16 January 2023 (Central European Time)

17:00-19:30.

Additional sessions will be on Monday evenings, from 17:00 to 19:30.

One more important note: As with all therapies, there is no guarantee that it is 100% effective. As with all therapies, it is very much dependent on the metabolism of the person concerned and how consistently they adhere to the lifestyle changes discussed.
